My daughter loves art. She loves anything to do with painting, colouring, cutting, pasting, moulding, well you name it. As long as it is art, she is game for it. So I decided to sign her up for a batik painting workshop at the local community club.
I asked the man at the counter -”Is this for kids?”
Man said “Yes.”
So she waited excitedly for the day to come and counted every single day. Unfortunately it was postponed cos apparently the response was not so good. She was quite disappointed.
So we waited and finally the day came. She was all ready and eager to go. I brought her into the hall and WHOA and BEHOLD! What did we see? A bunch of senior citizens plus some housewives who had brought their teenage kids. A lady came and asked me, “So are you here for the class?” I looked at her and calmly replied “No. But my daughter is. I was told this was meant for kids. NO?” She said, “Oh. Actually it is meant for anybody who is interested.”
And while all this was going on my daughter was wondering why have I brought here there. She finally tugged and asked “Where are the kids?”
I had to smile and pretend I did not hear that.
Anyway, we were told to get started. And as the session progressed, my daughter was enjoying herself. She learnt all about tracing the design, tchanting, paraffin wax and magic salt. It was cool.
She tried her best to do everything but I had to help her with the paraffin wax. It was really hot and you have to have a steady hand moving it over the design. And you can’t miss a spot cos the paint will spread if the wax did not cover the design properly.
We spend like 4 hours there but it was fun doing something and learning new things.
